While I was stationed
with the army in Germany in 1945, the truck in which I was riding
collided with a tank. I was crushed against the tank, leaving my feet
in a horrible condition. The doctors were able to assemble the broken
pieces of bone and fix them
together, but bone sarcoma set in and spread. It was therefore decided
that there was no other way but to have both feet amputated. However,
I adamantly refused amputation and went from one well-known doctor
to another. My condition nevertheless continued to worsen and it became
difficult even to put on my shoes. Then, at the urging of my wife
Shigeko, whom I had married while stationed in Japan, I became a member
of Shinreikyo. One morning about two months later, I woke up as usual
but was surprised to find that I could put on my shoes. After that,
with each passing day my feet began to return to normal. Now I can
walk and run as well as I could before the accident. |
